To do so, go to the email window's Tools menu, and click the Request Read Receipt to uncheck the request. You can either change your current status to invisible and that won’t send any read receipts, or you can disable the actual option for the receipts. Keep in mind that even if your global Outlook Express settings are to request read receipts for all email, you always have the option to turn off the request for individual emails. Check the Request a Delivery ReceiptRequest a Read Receipt checkbox. Place a check mark by Read receipt confirming the recipient viewed the message. Skype lets you turn off read receipts using two ways. Keep in mind that absence of read receipt confirmation is not conclusive. Remember that receiving a read receipt confirmation confirms that someone read your email (hopefully the intended recipient). Check the Request a read receipt for all sent messages checkbox if you want Outlook Express to include read receipt requests for all emails you send. The first section, labeled " Requesting Read Receipts", offers a one-checkbox option for all your emails. When the Options dialog opens, click on the Receipts tab. In the Reading Pane dialog box, please uncheck both Mark items as read when viewed in the Reading Pane and Mark items as read when selection changes options. Going back to the RFCs (Ill be quick I promise) there is a difference between the actual read receipt itself and the read receipt request (same goes for delivery reports and the initial delivery report request). A read receipt confirms that your message was opened. Automatically Request Email Read Receipts A delivery receipt confirms delivery of your email message to the recipients mailbox, but not that the recipient has seen it or read it.
